Forum lauds Gov. Abdulfatah Ahmed over road projects

Date: 2016-02-12

The Kwara South Unity Forum has commended the renewed efforts of Kwara Governor, Alhaji Abdulfatah Ahmed, to complete all ongoing road projects initiated by his administration.

The forum gave the commendation in a communiqué issued at the end of its monthly meeting in Rore in Irepodun Local Government area of the state.

The communique, which was made available to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Thursday in Omu-Aran, was signed by Retired Maj.- Gen. Yemi Abidoye and Mr Rotimi Ogunwuyi, the Chairman and Interim Secretary of the forum, respectively. The forum noted that the latest resumption of work on the abandoned road project sites had rekindled the confidence of the people in the government.

It particularly cited the Omu-Aran - Rore - Aran-Orin - Arandun road; the Oloro Palace road; Oke-Ode - Sagbe road, Oko River Bridge, Oro-Ago; Offa - Ira road; Share and Oke-Ode township roads, all in Kwara South Senatorial District, among projects receiving attention.

The forum said that it was gratifying that similar projects were ongoing in the two other senatorial districts of the state and Ilorin, the state capital. It enjoined Gov. Ahmed to channel available resources to ensure the take-off of the Osi Campus of the Kwara State University this year.

The forum appealed to the governor to rehabilitate the deplorable Ajase-Ipo – Offa road and the Eruku– Egbe road, described as gateways into the state from Osun and Kogi states.

It noted that although the two roads were federal roads, they are too vital to the transportation and economic well-being of the citizenry.

The forum said that the degree of infrastructural decay in the state was unbefitting of a first-generation state which would be 50 years in May 2017.

It also urged the people of the state to cooperate with the state government in its current drive to increase its internally generated revenue from about N10 billion to N60 billion annually.

This, the forum noted, would greatly assist in providing more social amenities and further boost infrastructure development, especially at the grassroots. The forum took a critical look at the comatose state of the local governments in the state and advised those at the helms of councils' affairs to be more versatile in revenue collection and prudent in resource management.
