Man arraigned for cheating
A man, Hassan Ibrahim of no fixed address, who allegedly defraud a man under the pretence of selling a house to him has been arraigned before an Ilorin Chief Magistrate Court.
The accused was brought before the court on a two-count charge of criminal breach of trust and cheating, contrary to Sections 312 and 322 of Penal Code Law.
The accused was indicted following a letter of complaint on May 14, 2013 to the Area Commander's office, Nigeria Police, Kwara State Command, Ilorin, by one Yakub Olusegun Keku of No. 21, Asa-Dam Road, Ilorin, that the accused defrauded him.
According to the complainant, sometimes in the month of August, 2010 the accused approached the victim that his landlady wanted to sell her house located at Asa-Dam Road, Ilorin.
The victim alleged that the accused fraudulently and dishonestly collected from him a total sum of N2,535,000 out of which he paid N2,300,000 into the accused Oceanic Bank account number 2831701700452 with teller number 30482725.
Police First Information Report (FIR) stated that the accused deceived and fraudulently collected the said money from the victim and diverted the money to his own use.
The FIR added that the accused has been on the run since then until he was arrested.
The FIR further added that the accused confessed and admitted to the allegation during police investigation.
The prosecutor, Inspector Godwin Azua urged the court to adjourn the case till further date to enable them prove the allegation against the accused, even as he left the bail of the accused to the discretion of the court.
Chief Magistrate J.B. Salihu exercise its bail discretion in favour of the accused as he released him on bail at the sum of N500,000 and two sureties in the same amount. The court adjourned the case till March 10, 2016 for further mention.
