Some Kwara workers receive multiple salaries - Ahmed

Date: 2016-02-16

The Kwara State Governor, Alhaji Abdulfatah Ahmed, on Monday said some workers in the state were allegedly receiving multiple salaries.

He added that this anomaly was responsible for the current inability of local government councils and the State Universal Basic Education Board to pay workers' salaries regularly.

He however said the government was already collaborating with banks to use the Biometric Verification Number to detect those collecting multiple salaries.

Ahmed spoke at a stakeholders' meeting with leaders and supporters of the All Progressives Congress in Ilorin, the state capital.

The governor also said the state government would conduct staff verification for civil servants, basic level teachers, local government workers and pensioners to weed out ghost workers in the state.

According to him, the new Internally Generated Revenue drive of the state government was yielding positive results.

He assured workers that all outstanding salaries would be cleared before the end of March.

On the proposed N20bn bond, Ahmed said the process had reached an advanced stage with the Security and Exchange Commission, the Debt Management Office and the Federal Ministry of Finance in order for the state government to access the bond for capital projects.

He promised that his government would continue to meet its obligations despite the prevailing economic situation in the country.

The state Chairman of the APC, Alhaji Ishola Balogun-Fulani, commended Ahmed for his commitment to improving the living standard of the people, despite the current national financial challenge.

He appealed to APC supporters to continue to support the present administration and protect public installations across the state against vandalism.
