Date: 2016-02-17

Administrators across the country have been called upon to embrace the change trend in the administrative sectors in order for them to remain relevant. They were also charged to seek knowledge on the latest technologies, as the world is moving to the global trend totally stressing that the use of technologies will speed up administration of the future.

A former registrar of Ekiti State University, and former chairman of Association of Registrars of Nigerian University Dr Omojola Awosusi made the call at the first Registry annual lecture series of the University of Ilorin held at the university's auditorium.

Awosusi noted that the challenges facing administrators of now and which will create panic if not embarrassment for them in the university's future include rapidity of innovation in ICT, emergence of new jobs, training performance management, out sourcing, customer restlessness, and innovation in events management among others.

He added that a lot of administrators still have problem in making use of computer and ICT applications, adding that the university of future will shock this category of people, noting that an administrator of now a day must have basic knowledge of using computer because the world would shift to digital totally in nearest future even as he observed that people would no longer employ secretaries.

He then called for proper development in the global higher education system rather than making people fear their career, and this should be seen as veritable opportunities for administrators to be relevant in and out of their offices. Earlier in his address, the vice chancellor of the University of Ilorin, Professor Abdulganiy Ambali, described the lecture as a thought provoking one, as he said it was a wakeup call to administrators to realize the imperatives of embracing change.

He noted that "the university of future is the one that embraces innovation and welcomes technology, along with its traditional mandate adding that it would take the thoughtful to quickly appreciate that the future is here and there is need to roll up sleeves and do the needful right now to make the future better".

Ambali said the time is now and the future is here to rise to the occasion of creating an enabling environment for the delivery of the university goods for the benefit of man and advancement of humanity as he said was crucial for everyone to work together to deliver the goods of higher learning to make Nigeria better. He said higher institutions are created for some reasons which included to serve the needs of an adaptable, sustainable, and knowledge based economy at local regional and at the national levels.

"To inspire and enable individuals to develop their capabilities to the highest potential levels throughout life, so that they grow intellectually, well equipped for work and can contribute to society and achive personal fulfilment. "To increase knowledge and understanding for their own sake and to foster their application to the benefit of the economy and society And to play major role in shaping a democratic, civilised and inclusive society, he added.

He said all the aforementioned goals could not be achieved without concerted efforts of both the lecturers and administrators stressing that without administrators on whose neck the progress and development of the university rests, nothing concrete can be achieved.

Also speaking the registrar of the university of Ilorin, Mr Emmanuel Dada Obafemi said there was no place to hide as the society is continually in the drive to excellence and only administrators who are open and receptive to new ideas will come out triumphant and unscathed thereby urging all administrators to join the moving train of change which will not wait for anybody. Mr Obafemi also noted that in the age of globalization and advancement in information technology, any administrator that wants to remain relevant in his job must have the knowledge of ICT.
