Ilorin Cult Killings: Group Absolves Saraki Of Complicity

Date: 2016-04-06

Ahead of his trial at the Code of Conduct Tribunal (CCT) today, the Kwara Vanguard for Justice(KVJ) has absolved the Senate President, Dr Bukola Saraki of any complicity in the recent cult killings in Ilorin, Kwara State.

The group in a statement by its chairman, AbdulJeleel Buko described an online medium's report linking Saraki with the dastardly acts as false, misleading and self serving.

It noted that during Saraki's eight-year rule (2003 - 2011) as governor of Kwara State, cultism was completely eradicated in the state's tertiary institutions. It added, "in addition, a bill that forbade any form of secret society was passed and signed into law with appropriate punishment stipulated for cultists, collaborators and even landlords that may be found aiding and abetting cultism in various student hostels across the state.

"It is not a coincidence that Sahara reporters have come out to declare that the President of the Senate, Dr Bukola Saraki is the kingpin and mastermind of cultist activities in Ilorin. "It is the medium's normal style to cause disaffection and distraction ahead of any date that Saraki's matter would come up in court. "That was the style when Justice Abdul Kafarati was to make a pronouncement on Saraki's matter that was before him. Rather than delivering judgment, the Judge was blackmailed to hands off the matter.

"Sahara reporters has this time released a piece to allege that Dr Bukola was linked with some cultists that were hacked down by their fellow rivals. This claim is not only false, mischievous but malicious and deliberate defamation designed to run down the Turaki of Ilorin at all cost".
