Construct Second River Niger Bridge, Kwara Assembly Appeals to FG
The Kwara state House of Assembly on Wednesday appealed to the federal government to include the construction of the second River Niger bridge linking Edu local government area of Kwara State with Niger state in the next year budget.
This, the house said, would go a long way in improving the economic growth of the two affected states and also reduce problems associated with travelling on the river by boats.
The house made the appeal on Wednesday in its resolution after adopting a motion without notice on the non-construction of the bridge moved by. Hon. lsiaku Aliyu-Adamu who represents Edu constituency.
He noted that the construction of the bridge will ease transportation of farm produce between the two states.
He said the construction of the bridge would also reduce traveling on river which he said was always risky. Other members who contributed included the House Leader, Hon. Hassan Oyeleke, who said: "The construction of the second Niger bridge is long overdue".
Oyeleke however urged the government to rise up to the challenge so as to add more values to the socio economic growth of the country.
The deputy speaker, Hon. Mathew Okedare, who presided over Wednesday's plenary, while reading the resolution of the house, urged National Assembly members from Kwara and Niger states to work towards the construction of the bridge.
