NURTW moves to alleviate students' transport challenges

Date: 2016-06-14

The Chairman of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), Kwara State Chapter, Alhaji Issa Aliyu Ore, has promised to partner the University of Ilorin to alleviate the transport challenges facing the students of the University.

Alhaji Ore, who made the promise last Tuesday (June 7, 2016) while answering questions on a weekly current affairs programme, 'Oro t'onlo' on Unilorin 89.3 FM, noted that the University of Ilorin has a good name in the country and beyond, hence his Union would be ready to collaborate with the university authority in alleviating the menace of long queues of students at both the Challenge terminus and the University park.

Pointing out that the University of Ilorin is known for discipline, stable academic calendar and quality education, the Union leader enjoined the heads of other tertiary institutions in the country to visit Unilorin in order to under-study the secret behind its stability so that they can emulate the good virtues. The unionist appealed to the Federal Government to rehabilitate all federal roads in the country to reduce accidents on the highways and ensure security of lives and property. He opined that 75 per cent of the accidents that occur on Nigerian roads are caused by bad roads.

Stressing that despite the increase in fuel pump price by the Federal Government, the Union had not increased the transport fare in Kwara state, Alhaji Ore enjoined the NURTW members in the state to continue to be law-abiding and have the fear of Allah in all their activities.

The union leader gave kudos to the members of the NURTW, Unilorin Route Chapter for their God-fearing, maturity and good behavior before, during and after the just concluded union's election in the University. Saying that there was no victor no vanquished, Alhaji Ore advised the newly elected executive committee members of the union to avoid the "winner takes all" syndrome, be focused and continue with the existing mutual understanding among the members.
