Police recruitment: Proliferation of fake certificates worries Gov Ahmed

Governor Abdulfatah Ahmed of Kwara State has expressed concern over the proliferation of fake certificates in the country.

The governor who made the observation while playing host to a committee on police recruitment led by a commissioner representing the state at the Federal Character Commission, Dr Femi Ogunsola at the Government House, Ilorin, pointed out that the practice had continued to cause setback to the system. According to the governor, "the issue of people forging results is nothing to be handled lightly. We should join hands to combat it".

He further submitted that the act called for urgent solution, suggesting a total overhauling of the system in checkmating the cankerworm. He also stressed the need for certificate verification in order to fish out perpetrators and make them to face the full wrath of the law to serve as deterrent to others.

According to the governor, "The verification of certificate is very germane in order to guide against criminals getting their ways into the system. "Because once this faceless people gain access into the force they will compromise the efforts of genuine officers". He also advocated the review of the citizenship to either the place of residence in order to suit the current existence and for the benefit of all.

The governor who maintained that the citizenship issue had continued to constitute impediment to some people said there was urgent need to address the problem with a view to proffering solution to the problem confronting the citizenry.

The team leader, Dr Femi Ogunsola in his remark told the governor that the committee had received petitions from concerned Nigerians over forged certificates, adding that they were in the state in respect of the ongoing police recruitment exercise.

He explained that the committee was put in place by the police service commission to oversee ongoing police recruitment to ensure a hitch-free exercise.
