Kwara to improve workers welfare

Date: 2016-07-02

The Kwara State government has promised to continue to place high premium on workers welfare despite the economic challenges.

The Governor Abdulfatah Ahmed stated this in an interactive session with civil servants on grade levels one to eight in Ilorin, the State capital.

Governor Ahmed enlightened them on the current financial challenges at the federal, state and local government levels, saying that the "ingenuity of his government has made payment of their salaries possible."

Revenue drive

He explained that the current revenue drive had improved Kwara State internal revenue from 500 million Naira to 1.3 billion Naira monthly and could improve further with the cooperation of the civil servants.

On the ongoing biometric verification exercise, Governor Ahmed re-emphasised that any civil servant caught in the second phase with fake certificates or aiding ghost workers would be apprehended and prosecuted.

"I will continue to pursue people oriented programmes...I therefore task civil servants in Kwara state to be advocates of genuineness and report to work punctually," Governor Ahmed promised.

The State's Head of Service, Zahrah Omar had assured the civil servants of government's unflinching support and loyalty in providing quality services despite the shortfall in allocation.

Some of the senior civil servants who spoke at the event commended the state government for the prompt payment of their salaries while workers of the Water Corporation urged the government to create enabling environment for them to generate more revenue.

The event ended the week-long interaction between Governor Ahmed and the civil servants.
