Unilorin Muslims hold first Eid prayer on campus

Date: 2016-07-12

Members of the University of Ilorin Muslim Community, friends and lovers of the University, numbering over 5,000 last Wednesday (July 6, 2016) joined the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. AbdulGaniyu Ambali (OON), and top management staff of the institution in observing the Eid-el-Fitr prayer at the premises of the University Central Mosque.

The Eid prayer, which was the first of its kind on the university campus since its establishment 41 years ago, was led by the Chief Imam of the University, Prof. A. G. A. S. Oladosu.

In his Khutubat (Sermon) shortly after the two-rakaats prayer, Prof. Oladosu admonished Muslim faithful to rededicate themselves to the cause of Allah and to wholeheartedly embrace and sustain the values and virtues which the holy month of Ramadan taught them in their daily lives.

Prof. Oladosu enumerated the lessons of Ramadan as including love, affection, alms giving, and high level of spiritual development. He enjoined Muslims faithful to imbibe these lessons and allow them and other reward-yielding acts to be their watch words.

The Chief Imam also used the occasion to call on Nigerians, irrespective of their religion, ethnic and political affiliations, to see themselves as one and embrace love, peace and unity so as to have a peaceful, united and prosperous nation.

He thanked God for making the maiden edition of the University of Ilorin Eid prayer not only possible but also well attended and prayed God to accept every bit of the prayer offered during the prayer as an act of Ibaadah.

In a chat with newsmen shortly after the prayer, the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Ambali expressed satisfaction over the realisation of the University of Ilorin Muslim community's dream to begin its Eid prayer on the campus, describing it as a good omen in the history of the University.

Prof. Ambali urged Muslims to continue to let the lessons gained during the month of Ramadan permeate their day-to-day conducts in order to have a peaceful mind and a progressive society.

The Vice-Chancellor then congratulated members of the Unilorin Muslim Community for witnessing the Eid-el-Fitr festival, which marked the end of the 30 days Ramadan fasting and enjoined them to make judicious use of the spiritual development gained during Ramadan and allow it to reflect in their private and public lives.

Also in his comment, the Chairman of the University of Ilorin Muslim Community, Prof. B. L. Adeleke, appreciated God for making the maiden edition of the Eid prayer a huge success and thanked members of the University community, friends and lovers of the better by far institution for honoring the University with their presence for the prayer.
