VC inaugurates National Youth Games LOC

The Vice-Chancellor of the University of Ilorin, Prof. AbdulGaniyu Ambali (OON), last Monday (July 18, 2016), inaugurated the Local Organising Committee (LOC) for the National Youth Games scheduled to take place at the University between September 22nd and 30th this year.

Speaking during the inauguration, Prof. Ambali told the LOC members that they have been saddled with an important assignment that would promote the image of the University. He called on them to draw from the experience of hosting the West Africa Universities Games (WAUG) in 2012.

The Vice-Chancellor assured that the University has the required facilities and manpower to host the games on behalf of the Federal Ministry of Youth and Sports Development and tasked the LOC members to live up to expectations. "I want to charge you to start work immediately and put finishing touches to our infrastructures", Prof. Ambali charged the Committee members.

Responding on behalf of the LOC members, the Chairman, Unilorin Sports Council, Prof. U. B. Eke, thanked the Vice-Chancellor for the confidence reposed in the Committee members, noting that "it is a simple but important assignment". Assuring the Vice-Chancellor that the University would host a high standard game, Prof. Eke explained that aside from the LOC, there is also the Main Organizing Committee (MOC) that includes the officials of the Federal Ministry of Sports.

Members of the Local Organizing Committee Chaired by the Vice-Chancellor included: Prof. O. O. Obiyemi, Dr. R. A. Sheu, Mrs. A. S. B. Bashar, Dr. A. A. Yusuf, Prof. J. O. Atteh, Engr. M. S. Sanni, Prof. Bayo Lawal, Kwara State Commissioner of Police, Dr. (Mrs.) Ajiboye, Dr. Bode Kayode and Prof. U. B. Eke. Others are Prof. A. E. Talabi, Prof. Bisi Onasanya, Mr. Kunle Akogun and Mr. A. O. Kuranga.

The Vice-Chancellor was joined at the inauguration by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (RTI), Prof. Gabriel Olatunji; Deputy Vice-Chancellor (MS), Prof. A. Y. Abdulkareem; Registrar, Mr. E. D. Obafemi and Deputy Bursar, Mr. O. Ogunbiyi.
