Residents of Ilorin, Kwara State capital, were shocked yesterday, following news of a seven month old baby girl, who was abandoned along Airport Road area of the state before she was rescued by some good Samaritans.

Sources said the incident occurred around 7:30 pm when the baby was seen in a bush at back of National Union Road Transport Worker building along Galadima area of Airport road.

According to witness account, one Lukman Sunmibare, a resident of the community, was in the bush to defecate became amazed when he heard the crying baby's voice. Sunmibare said the baby girl was shivering when she was found, describing the mother as heartless as she was yet-to-be-identified as at the time of filing this report.

It was further gathered that the baby was taken to Surulere "B" division Police Station by the good samaritans where the case was reported. Another source disclosed that the baby had been taken to General Hospital, Ilorin and she was receiving medical attention.

When contacted, the Kwara State Police Command Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Ajayi Okasanmi said he was not aware of the incident, promising to confirm and get back to our correspondent.
