Don't allow religion and politics to divide us - Hajia Yasin
The Founder of the Passionate Heart Empowerment Foundation and Wife of the National President of the National Union of Road Transport Workers, Hajia Maryam Jumain Usman Yasin made the call while flagging off free health programme for members of the National Union of Road Transport Workers in Kwara State, held at Ero Omo offa garage.
According to her, there will not be rapid development in the country if the people remained divided along religions and political lines, adding that the nation would overcome the current economic crisis if Nigerians are united.
Hajia Maryam Usman -Yasin stressed the need for Nigerians to build love, oneness and unity to foster growth and development of the country.
Speaking on the health programme, the Initiator of the Foundation noted that the Non Governmental Organization decided to embark on the programme to assist the less privileged in the society and alleviate their sufferings.
Hajia Maryam Usman Yasin said her pet project was a philanthropist gesture aimed at touching the lives of the people, especially the downtrodden people in the society who are deprived of basic healthcare services and cannot afford hospital bills.
The Founder of the NGO said as a civil servant, she used ten percent of her monthly salary to assist the less privileged since the foundation was established in ninety eighty one and registered with the corporate affairs commission in two thousand and twelve, describing it as a way of giving back to the society.
Hajia Maryam Usman -Yasin added that the Foundation had also embarked on such programme in Kano and Lagos states, noting that such efforts was also done with donation of good and food items to the Internally Displaced Persons in the North East.
In his welcome address, the State Chairman of the National Union of Road Transport Workers, Alhaji Aliyu Issa Ore, said about ten thousand, nine hundred and eighty four members of the union would benefit from the gesture.
Alhaji Issa Ore said five hundred pieces of recommended glasses worth millions of naira would be distributed, while drugs would also be administered and medical check ups would be carried out.
He charged members of the Union to always assist the needy and physically challenged people in the society.
The Passionate Heart Empowerment Foundation alongside members of the State Chapter of the National Union of Road Transport Workers visited the Nigerian Prisons Service, Medium Security Prisons, Mandala and donated food and good items to the prisoners.
