How Labour Unions Agreed to Utilise N1B From Kwara Govt

Date: 2016-12-15

Details have emerged of how the Nigerian Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE) and Nigerian Union of Teachers (NUT) in Kwara will utilize the N1billion released by the State government to local governments.

During a meeting with the State Governor, Alhaji Abdulfatah Ahmed on Tuesday, State leaders of NULGE, NUT, NLC and JNC opted to use N600m out of the N1billion to augment LGs November allocation to pay one month full salaries.

Sources at the meeting said the union leaders also agreed to reserve the remaining N400m to augment December allocation in case of any shortfall so that the workers will get a full salary for the month.

Governor Ahmed shares details of the Paris and London Club payment with State Labour Leaders

The sources further disclosed that Governor Ahmed gave the labour unions options of using the N1billion to either pay existing salary arrears or use part of the money to pay November salary and keep the rest for December.

Governor Ahmed noted that there are other inflows expected from the Federal Government including refund of money spent on rehabilitation of federal roads within the State and additional payment from the London and Paris Club loan refunds, which he said will be paid on quarterly basis to states.

The governor assured that the refunds when received by the State government will go towards offsetting more of the salary arrears and improving infrastructural facilities across the State.
