Prof. Jimoh Wants More Budgetary Allocation for Health
A don, Prof. AbdulGafar Akanbi Jimoh has called an government at all levels to increase budgetary provision For health sector with a view to meeting the World Health Organization (WHO) on health provision.
He also called on the Nigerian Medical Association to intensify efforts in ensuring that national health bill is assented to by President Goodluck Jonathan as a way of addressing health challenges in the country.
Prof. Jimoh in his inaugural lecture titled "Different strokes for different folks, but some couples do have them" at the University of Ilorin, stressed the need for Society of Gyneacologists and Obstetricians of Nigeria (SOGON) to be at the forefront of treatment and prevention of infertility in the country.
The don who is a Professor of Obstetricians and Gyneacologists, Faculty of Clinical Sciences, College of Health Sciences, University of Ilorin, also called on government at all levels to subsidize the service of infertility treatment.
He said directed programmes to tackle sexually transmitted infections (STI) in the sexes, puerperal sepsis in women aneffective family planning puerperal sepsis in women and effective family planning services would go a long way in stemming the tide of preventable infertility in the Country
According to him, "there must be political will on the part of government at all levels to improve the lots of our women. The service of infertility treatment can be subsidized by the government at all levels
People may argue against that in view of our perceived/real over population. For those women who do not have the fruits of the womb, no efforts from the governments are too much.
The don urged Nigerians to take issues relating to their health very seriously, adding that "it is obvious to us from this presentation that our fertility potential rests largely on us.What we eat. drink. smoke and the type of life style we live can impair largely our infertility.
