Gov Ahmed Inaugurates Local Government Pension Board

The Kwara state Governor, Alhaji (Dr.) Abdulfatah Ahmed has inaugurated the Local Government Pension Board.

Representing the Governor Abdulfatah Ahmed (Sai Maigida) at the inauguration was Hajia Sarat Adebayo, the Chairman LG Service Commission who also doubled as the Chairman LG Pension Board.

In her inaugural speech, Hajia Sarat commended His Excellency, the Executive Governor of Kwara, Alhaji (Dr.) Abdulfatah Ahmed, for his bold step and determination to use the expected Paris Fund to settle the LG backlogs and Pension arrears.

She however affirmed that the LG salary problems emanated from the low allocation from the Federal government and assured the people that the problem will soon be a thing of the past.

She charged other members of the Board to endeavour to add more value for the benefits of the people and the state as a whole. She urged the members to shun acts capable of jeopardizing the policy trust of Shared Prosperity of the Kwara State Governor, Alhaji (Dr.) Abdulfatah Ahmed and the goals of the Board as inaugurated.

Hajia Sarat, while delivering her address, enumerated the history of the Board as established in 1989 by the then Military Governor of Kwara State, Captain Ibrahim Alkali through Edict No. 7 of 1989.

She noted that the Board was created with main objective, which is catering for the welfare of the pensioners of the Local Government and Local Government Education Authority through prompt payment of their pension and gratuity.

"The confidence we have is that His Excellency, the Executive Governor of Kwara State, Alhaji (Dr.) Abdulfatah Ahmed, is a lover of pensioners who shared in the pensioners' pains and have sympathy for them. He has promised that immediately there is improvement in the finance of the Local Government, he would definitely be ready to pay all these outstanding both of pension and also of the gratuity," she added.

1. Hajia Adebayo Nike Sarat — Chairman

2. Mr. George Funsho Adebayo — Secretary

3. Hajia Mamatu Abdullahi — Member

4. Alhaji Idris Iliyasu — (Rep HoS)

5. Akanbi Tajudeen O. — Rep Min of Local Govt.

6. Com. Oloruntade Ibikunle — Rep NULGE

7. Mrs O. Kikelomo Olanrewaju — Rep Min of Finance

8. Saheed Aliyu Isiaka — Rep LG Service Commission

The Chairman of the Board, Hajia Sarat, appreciated the Governor for the opportunity given to them all to serve and commended the members for their readiness to serve as she urged them to justify the confidence repose in them by the people and their various ministries.

In her conclusion, Hajia Sarat said, "distinguished members, with the present situation on ground, I believe you will be able to contribute your quota individually and collectively to salvage the situation. We should be able to move the Board forward and at the end of our tenure, we should be able to leave the Board better than we met it."
