N-Power: 35 over-aged volunteers disqualified in Kwara

Date: 2017-05-29

The Kwara State Coordinator of the Federal Government N-Power scheme, Elder Ayobola Samuel declared yesterday that no fewer than 35 volunteers have been disqualified from the scheme.

He stressed that the majority of those disqualified are those who are over-aged, noting that they failed to disclose their true date of birth during the registration exercise.

According to him, there is age-limit for participants as anyone above 35 cannot partake in the scheme.

"Among many reasons, the scheme has disqualified 35 volunteers of N-Power, our people only rushed to it then not minding their age, now it has affected them. Those that are above 35 years cannot participate. They know this from the inception but they throw it off mind," he stressed.

Recall that volunteers of the scheme in the state had protested many times over unpaid salaries and what they later tagged selective payment.

But the Senior Special Assistant to the Kwara State Governor on Youths Empowerment, Sakariya Babatunde noted that those affected by non payment of salaries are volunteers who had problems with their registration.

According to him, the volunteers failed to provide appropriate response to the questions put to them during registration. Babatunde stated that women dominate those that have challenges in getting their monthly entitlement.

Giving reasons to the development, the Governor's aide said many of the females were yet to marry when they registered for the scheme adding that they used their father's name as surname in the information provided for the scheme.

He had said, "After they had married, changing their names became an issue. Also, many of them concocted bio-metric number, when they discovered that there is a need for it, they think they can jump procedure by returning to the bank to generate genuine one.
