Date: 2017-06-09

The Kwara State government has called for a collective effort in the fight against corruption in Nigeria.

Governor Abdulfatah Ahmed made the call when he received members of a Non-Governmental Organisation, Voice of Change Initiative led by its President, Clement Nwaneze at the Government House in Ilorin.

Governor Ahmed identified corruption as an impediment economic growth, saying "the fight against corruption must not be left for President Muhammadu Buhari alone."

According to him, fighting corruption requires a sense of urgency from all stakeholders, if Nigeria must attain the desirable level of economic growth.

Partnership with federal agencies

Governor Ahmed stressed the need for partnership with federal agencies in ensuring institutional framework necessary to drive the anti-corruption campaign.

He promised that his government would continue to ensure that the people of the state get value for their money through internally generated revenues.

The Governor commended members of the group for promoting the fight against corruption and challenged them to use their entertainment platform to advocate paradigm shift in the society.

The President, Voice of Change Initiative, Clement Nwaneze said that the group came together to champion campaign in support of President Muhammadu Buhari's fight against corruption.

"Corruption is a major problem in Nigeria and has affected every sector...so we are seeking the support of the Governor in our activities in the North Central zone," Nwaneze stated.

Voice of Change Initiative is an entertainment platform which comprises actors, musicians, students and market women in Nigeria.
