45 primary schools in Kwara get sports equipment from lottery commission

National Lottery Trust Fund (NLTF) yesterday presented sports equipment worth millions of naira to 45 selected public primary schools in Kwara state.

Speaking at the commissioning and presentation of the equipment in Ilorin, the Secretary to the Government of the Federation SGF, Dr. Mrs. Habiba Lawal, said that the distributed sports equipment were purchased at the instance of the directive by President Muhammadu Buhari to the NLTF to the effect that the money in their custody should be utilized for 'good causes'.

The SGF, who said that the NLTF was the custodian of the fund generated to the coffers of the federal government through lottery activities, added that 20 per cent of the money generated and kept with the Trust Fund was used for the good causes.

Lawal, who was represented by the permanent secretary, Special Duties, Dr. Mrs. Amina Shamaki, said that 50 per cent of the money generated through lottery activities was paid back to those who actually play the lottery.

Also speaking, Governor Abdulfatah Ahmed assured the NLTF that the benefitting schools would make judicious use of the sports equipment, urging the Trust Fund to ensure that all schools in the state were touched and the distribution sustained.
