IT Student Held for Misappropraition
An Industrial Training student with an estate firm in Ilorin, Kwara State have appeared alongside another staff before an Ilorin Magistrate Court for allegedly misappropraiting their employer's money.
The student, Oyinloye Tosin and 26-year-old Rasheedat Yahaya, both staff of Jide Taiwo & Co. at Taiwo Road, Ilorin, were said to have on July 23 collected money from a client of the company but failed to remit to the company's account.
Police arrested the accused after a complaint at the office of the Area Commander, Nigerian Police Force, Ilorin Metropolis, by one Akano Yetunde of Jide Taiwo & Co. Taiwo Road, Ilorin that the accused stole N104,000 belonging to the company.
The complainant stated further that on May 11 and 14, respectively, one of the company's clients paid a total sum of N104,000 to the first accused, Tosin who is an IT student attached to her department, which he failed to remit.
The complainant added that the first accused claimed to have handed over the said money to the Administration Ofiicer of the company, Rasheedat Yahaya (second accused), who vehemently denied collecting any money from the accused.
Police First Information Report (FIR) on the matter stated that the accused persons committed the offence.
The prosecutor, Inspector Mojisola Olamokun told the court that investigation into the matter was still ongoing and prayed the court for another day for further mention of the case so as to enable the police complete investigation.
The prosecutor also left the issue of the bail of the accused to the discretion of the court.
The defence counsel, Barrister Wale Obadofin, who made oral application for the bail of the accused, submitted that the 1999 constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria still presumed the accused innocent of the offence until proved otherwise.
Magistrate O. A. Adeniyi admitted the accused to bail each at the sum of the N50,000 and a surety in the same amount and adjourned the case till August 28 for further mention.
