Kwara govt responds to rumors of army killer vaccination; calls for calm

The Kwara state government has denied rumors that soldiers of the Nigerian army were injecting school children with killer vaccines.

Parents and guardians had abandoned their businesses and headed to various schools to retrieve their children/wards, as the rumors spread Rumors that soldiers of the Nigerian army were injecting school children in Omu-Aran, Irepodun local government area of Kwara state with killer vaccines, have been denied by the state government, Premium Times reports.

The rumors were dispelled by Amusa Bello, special adviser on security to the governor, who released a statement to that effect.

NAIJ.com gathers that Bello stated that there was no iota of truth to the claims being spread. As the rumors spread on Tuesday, October 17, parents and guardians immediately abandoned their businesses and headed to various schools to retrieve their children and wards.

As parents besieged various schools, many of them had to shut their gates to prevent the panicking mob from gaining entrance. However, Bello urged parents to be calm and ignore the rumors, as he stated that the army was not undergoing any vaccination exercise in the state.

In his words: "The state government calls on parents and guardians not to panic and to refrain from withdrawing their wards from schools based on this unfounded rumor."

Meanwhile, NAIJ.com previously reported that Rivers state was thrown into confusion with parents withdrawing their children from their various school over fresh Nigerian army vaccination rumors.

NAIJ.com gathered this through a phone call from one of the parents on Tuesday, October 17, who alleged that the army wanted to forcefully inject the kids with the pox virus.
