Constituents rise to recall Kwara House leader

Date: 2018-01-10

Leader of the Kwara State House of Assembly, Hon. Hassan Oyeleke, representing Eesa/Shawo/Igbodun Constituency in the Offa Local Government Area of Kwara State, is under fire.

This is as members of the constituency yesterday noted that they had already commenced recall process against the lawmaker for an alleged poor performance and under-representation.

But the lawmaker, who decried their action, described the attempt at recalling him as a gang up aimed at discrediting his political image and career for any future elective aspirations. Meanwhile, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), which had the statutory rights to implement such political process, had also not spoken about the move.

However, a statement signed by political leaders in the constituents, including Hon. Mufutau Adeyemo and Alhaji Dauda Azeez, and which was made available to newsmen in Ilorin, the state capital, yesterday alleged that the lawmaker had not adequately represented the constituency in the state House Assembly.

The aggrieved people alleged that Oyeleke had not initiated or supported any motion to effect the delivery of his campaign promises to constituency, adding that the lawmaker has failed to influence any constituency project to the area since his first term in the House in 2011 till date.

While they claimed that Oyeleke had only through joint efforts embarked on empowerment programme in 2012 in which he distributed exercise books valued at N350,000 to students of the area in 2017, the people also pointed out that the lawmaker had done nothing in the areas of agriculture, health and job creation or supported any motion in favour of the area.

The lawmaker was also accused of reneging on his promise to reclaim the people's land that had reportedly been taken away from Offa, a development which to them had become contentious and his failure to restore peace to the community.

They also alleged that the activities of the lawmaker during the last local government council election in the state had caused party discord, disharmony and disunity among members of the ruling APC and the electorate in the town.

However, the lawmaker described the allegations levelled against him and action of the people as a gang up by some members of the ruling APC and PDP in the area to discredit his political image.

Oyeleke, who said that the executive arm of government was in charge of project implementation in various parts of the state, added that his people were aware of his empowerment activities and thus they were not complaining.
