UNILORIN lecturers forced students to buy Coke before writing exam

Date: 2018-03-05

A lecturer in the Geography and Environmental Management department at the University of Ilorin allegedly disrupted students examination on Tuesday, February 27, because of a missing bottle of Coke.

According to an anonymous student who reported the incidence to Pulse, the lecturers disrupted their exams because of a missing bottle of Coke and asked each of them to buy a bottle of Coke before they could be allowed to write their papers.

The student said that one of her course mates took a bottle of Coke from the ones the lecturers were drinking and the lecturer got angry saying all the students won't be allowed to write their next paper except they all buy a bottle of Coke each.

'One of my colleagues took one of the PET Coke bottles the lecturers were drinking. I had already left the department by the time the lecturers found out. They were really angry and said we wouldn't write today's paper until we all bought a bottle of plastic Coke each''.

The students according to her thought it was a joke until the lecturer insisted that they all should go and buy the Coke before they would be allowed into the exam hall.

She said, "there were 83 of us in that hall yesterday and that would be 83 bottles of small solo Coke.

''We all settled in and the answer scripts were distributed. Soon after, we got the question papers and we all started the exam, about 10mins into the paper, the HOD came in and sent us all out to go and buy the Coke (don't forget sir that we had all seen the exam questions already!) we all left LR 5(the exam hall we were using) and went downstairs to buy a bottle of Coke each after which we dropped it in front of the class and wrote down our matric numbers on a brown envelope''.

However, since the student refused to mention the name of the lecturer, Pulse reached out to the UNILORIN Student Union Government representatives to confirm the allegation.

A member of the Student Union who spoke to Pulse confirmed the allegation against lecturers saying the SUG was aware of it and the Students Union President has assured the aggrieved students that he was working relentlessly on the matter to make sure that concerned lecturers get sanctioned.

The anonymous student union member said the case has been reported to the Senate Council.
