Gov Ahmed Preaches Peace

Date: 2012-09-10

Kwara State Governor, Alhaji Abdulfatah Ahmed has described peace as the fulcrum of national cohesion and communal development, saying "no nation or community ever developed in an atmosphere of violence, rancour or distrust.

He said the heterogeneity of "our nation is God ordained and it's for  a purpose. God never makes mistakes."

According to a statement signed by Abdulwahab Oba, Chief Press Secretary to the Kwara State Governor, he made this remark at the weekend during his visit to the Etsu of Tsaragi in the Edu Local Government, Alhaji Aliyu Abdullahi Kpotwo and the Olupako of Share in the Ifelodun Local government of the State, Alhaji Abubakar Garuba as part of efforts to strengthen peaceful relations between the two warring communities.

Alhaji Ahmed said that both communities must at all times work towards peaceful coexistence as their neighbourliness was not an accident of history, but a deliberate decision by the fore fathers of both communities to stay together as one united family.

He charged the leaders of both communities and their followers to always strengthen their bond of unity in order to achieve sustainable development in the area.

Governor Ahmed who described Tsaragi and Share as two communities within a town, stressed that although he is an indigene of Share, it was not the desire of his administration to acquire land of any community for the benefit of another community. "Why should I take over your land? For who?" he asked.

The Governor appealed to mischief makers to desist from fanning the embers of discord or hence face the wrath of the law. "Both communities must rally round your God ordained rulers to achieve lasting peace and infrastructural development", Ahmed advised.

Alhaji Ahmed commended the Etsu Tsaragi and the Olupako of Share for their commitment to lasting peace between their communities just as he advised the people not to listen to the machination of rumour mongers but always explore credible channels of clearing all misunderstandings.

The Etsu Tsaragi in his remarks noted that Governor Ahmed has been working tirelessly for peace between Share and Tsaragi since he assumed office which has led to peace talks between the two traditional rulers in Ilorin and during the Lesser Hajj in Saudi Arabia.

He described the emergence of Alhaji Abdulfatah Ahmed, whom he regarded as his son, as the Governor of Kwara State as God sent as his tenure could once again foster enduring peace between the communities.

In his remarks, the Olupako of Share, Alhaji Abubakar Garuba, represented by the Balogun of Share, Alhaji Olayiwola Balogun assured the Governor that the people of Share remain committed to the sustenance of the prevailing peace with their neighbors.
