Bamigboye: Nigeria has lost a hero, says Kwara PDP guber aspirant

Date: 2018-09-23

A governorship aspirant of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Kwara State, Alhaji Mohammed Ibrahim Ajia, has described the demise of the first military governor of the state, Brigadier General David Lasisi Bamigboye (rtd) as one death too many.

He said Kwara State and Nigeria as a whole had lost a hero, whose uncanny sense of patriotism and sheer allegiance to the nation could not be quantified.

In a statement issued from Abuja on Saturday, Ajia said he was saddened upon being informed of the death of the elderstateman.

The PDP gubernatorial candidate hopeful noted that the deceased pioneering efforts in the area of education and developmental strides when he held sway as number one citizen would remain indelible and a reference for those conscious of making new Kwara.

Ajia recalled that the administration of the late Bamigboye established Kwara State Polytechnic, which was then referred to as Kwara State School of Technology, state Library and other educational foundations that made the state a "modicum of knowledge".

He maintained that in the military front, the first Kwara administrator, contributed immeasurably to the stability of the nation during crises that nearly perforated the unity and cohesion of the country.

"At New Kwara Movement, we are saddened to be informed about the death of our hero and an iconic figure of repute, Brigadier General David Lasisi Bamigboye (rtd). This is one death too many. As the first military governor of Kwara State, his commitment to the development of the state was unquantifiable.

"We recall with nostalgia the pioneering efforts of our father in the area of education and other developmental strides. Of particular interest are Kwara State Polytechnic, State Library and the likes, which unarguably made Kwara a modicum of knowledge in the comity of States.

"But in as much as we are grieving over General Bamigboye's death, we are comforted that he lived an exemplary life that people of good conscience can emulate in their various undertakings. As his contributions to our dear state remain indelible, he would be remembered at all times. We pray to Almighty God to grant him eternal rest", Ajia said.

The governorship aspirant condoled the family, the Omu-Aran community and the entire people of the state on the death of the first military governor of the state.

Born December 7, 1940, the late former military governor died on Friday in Lagos at the age of 78. He hailed from Omu-Aran in Irepodun Local Government Area of Kwara State and was the military governor of the State between May 1967 and July 1975.
