Aremu promises to declare emergency in education in Kwara

Date: 2018-11-30

The Labour Party's governorship candidate in Kwara State, Issa Aremu, says he will declare a state of emergency in education if he is elected as the governor of the state.

Aremu made the promise on Thursday while speaking at the Asa Local Government Area Inter-School Science Fair Competition held at Apata Ajele Community Secondary School, Eiyenkorin in Kwara State.

His message was delivered by the party's state chairman, Mumini Onagun.

He regretted that education which started on a good note when the state was created on May 27, 1967 was now in a shambles.

He said, "I feel sad and diminished today that in 2018, community schools lack what I and others had some 45 years ago: infrastructure such as water supply, toilet and science laboratory.

"The schools also receive little or no funding and support from the government.

"Teachers are also being arbitrarily transferred for daring to protest against delayed and non-payment of their legitimate salaries. This is unacceptable."

He claimed that all public schools in the state were in a state of disrepair and abandonment.
