Radio Kwara Back on Air
Kwara State Broadcasting Corporation popular called Radio Kwara has returned to the airwaves after being off-air for about four months.
Radio Kwara operates on 612 kilohertz on AM band and 99.0/99.1 megahertz on FM band.
The AM band of Radio Kwara was off air following the collapse of its transmitter and other decayed equipment which resulted in poor output. On the otherhand, the Midland FM could only broadcast for few days before it collapsed again during the month of Ramadhan despite millions of naira allegedly spent on repositioning exercise carried out by the immediate past administration.
The former sole administrator of three media houses, Dr Muideen Akorede claimed the last administration spent N420m on the three state owned media houses (KWTV, Herald Newspapers and Radio Kwara).
On his twitter handle @RealAARahman, Governor AbdulRazaq announced the return of Radio Kwara today, after months of inactivity.
His words: "After several months of inactivity, I am happy to announce that Radio Kwara 99.1 (Midland) FM is back on air. I thank everyone that has made this possible. #Iseya."
It would be recalled that the State Governor, Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq of Kwara State on the 17th of June paid an unscheduled visit to the Broadcasting House and assured that the radio station would bounce back soon so as to continue disseminating information to the people of the state.
Governor Abdulrazaq alleged that the immediate past government of the state deliberately killed Radio Kwara in the bid to float their own private radio station.
The repositioning of the three state-owned media houses had received knocks and wide criticism particularly from key stakeholders in the media industry in the state which called for probe.
At the test run of Midland FM via 99.1 on Wednesday, the General Manager of Radio Kwara, Alh. Abdullateef Adedeji assured listeners that the full transmission would commence on Thursday by 6am while the AM station has since Monday begun test run between 12 noon and 6pm each day.
On the new 99.1 frequency, Alh. Adedeji attributed the development to the migration from analog to digital transmitter.
