Sack Fever Grips Kwara Owned Media Workers

Date: 2012-09-28

There is palpable tension among workers in the Kwara State owned media outfits as government has put necessary machinery in motion to restructure and right-size the workforce to enable them perform optimally and efficiently.

Making this was made known in Ilorin, Northcentral Nigeria, the Commissioner for Information and Communications, Prince Tunji Moronfoye, who attributed overstaffing in the media houses to political influence, noted that the step was inevitable to ensure effective service delivery.

Moronfoye, who assured that workers that would be affected by the restructuring would be moved to other places in the civil service where they would be productive, said the move was part of government’s plan to reposition the media houses and restore their past glory.

"When I say we are going to right-dize workers of government-owned media, it does not mean we want to downsize or sack people but to move them to places they will be productive," he said.

Meanwhile, arrangements have been concluded by government to commence town hall meetings to give room for government to hear directly from the indigenes.

The commissioner assured that the meetings would hold in the three senatorial districts of the state to ensure that the populace are carried along in the scheme of things.
