Political group in Kwara seeks split of Ifelodun LG

Date: 2019-09-14

AA Support Group, a political association in Kwara, has called for the creation of another council area from the present Ifelodun Local Government Area of the state.

The leader of the group, Chief Mohammed Lawal, made the request at a special prayer organised for Gov. Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq in Ilorin.

Lawal explained that the request was long overdue because Ifelodun Local Government Area had remained unbroken since the 1976 Local Government Reform.

"This has an adverse effect on the development of the area.

"The landmass, population and voting strength cannot be over emphasised," he said.

Lawal urged the governor to accede to the request of the people by creating a new local government area or Local Council Development Area.

He also said that the prayer organised for the governor was to seek divine guidance for the administration to succeed.

The group, according to Lawal, is committed to promoting the activities, policies and programmes of the government through sensitisation at the grassroots.

"Among the objectives of the group is to mobilise grassroots support for the government by enlightening the people on its achievements.

"Another key objective is to identify where government attention is needed in the area of infrastructure and socio-economic development in Ifelodun Local Government Area and recommend solutions to the governor," he said.

In his remarks, the Deputy Governor of the state, Mr Kayode Alabi, who hails from the local council, pledged that the new administration would transform the state.

Alabi, who was represented by Mr Hassan Garba, a grassroots politician, applauded the members of the group for remembering the governor in their prayers, saying they would share in the prosperity ahead.

Leading the group in prayers, Pastor Edward Malomo of Church of Christ, Ilorin, said that the emergence of Abdulrazaq had put an end to the political slavery in the state.

Malomo urged the group to support the administration in its bid to transform the state.

The cleric expressed optimism that the administration would take the state to an enviable height.

Alhaji Kamaldeen Sofihullahi, who led on the Islamic prayer, urged the governor to imbibe the principles of President Muhammadu Buhari in changing the fortunes of the state.

Sofihullahi, the Head of Department, Arabic Language, Kwara State College of Arabic and Islamic Legal Studies, said Kwarans would not entertain excuses because the state had suffered protracted underdevelopment.
