COVID-19: Rep Donates Face Shields, Others To Kwara Govt

Date: 2020-05-18

Rep. Tunji Ajuloopin, representing Ekiti, Isin, Irepodun and Oke-Ero Federal Constituency of Kwara, has donated face shields, goggles and surgical eyeglasses to the state government to boost the fight against novel coronavirus.

Receiving the items on Sunday at the Government House, Ilorin, the state Deputy Governor and Chairman, Technical Committee on COVID-19, Mr Kayode Alabi, said the government needed the items, medical facilities and drugs.

"We have been giving food. If you ask me: food or medicals? I will say, medicals.

"We have about 42 positive cases, and this is because of flouting to inter-state travel ban order.

"I am going to Osi in Ekiti Local Government Area and Erin-Ile in Oyun Local Government Area to see what is happening at the borders. "If we don't do this, we will have a lot of problems, we need medicals," Alabi said.

The deputy governor said he was worried at the spike in the number of cases in the state in recent weeks.

He said that the recent cases were mainly from Lagos, Kano and Kaduna, which had made the state worried, especially about contact tracing.

The deputy governor appealed to residents of the state to cooperate with the government to contain the spread of the virus.

In his remarks, Ajuloopin said he donated the items because health workers were vulnerable.

"This is my own way of giving back to the society that produced me, and I always feel for our health workers.

'Our health workers are there to protect us and they are being exposed to hazards on daily basis; that informed my decision of bringing these to Kwara, " Ajuloopin said.

He said that he had so far ordered and distributed no fewer than 10,000 fire proof face masks to his constituents.

He added that he had distributed foods running into millions when the government locked down the state.

"We distributed food items to cushion the effects of the stay-at-home order, sent our media team out to sensitise the public to the dangers of the COVID-19.

"We have engaged our constituents through various radio jingles to enlighten them on why they must be careful at this moment," Ajuloopin said..(NAN)
