Gana Yisa Urges FG to Revisit HYPADEC

Deputy Speaker of the Kwara State House of Assembly, Mohammed Gana Yisa has urged the Federal Government to look into the Hydro-Electric Producing Areas Development Commission (HYPADEC) to ensure that it becomes fully operational.

Speaking at the Town Hall meeting organised to round off the Good Governance tour of government's projects in Kwara State, the commission if operational, would help ameliorate sufferings of the people, who means of livelihood have been affected and spur development in the host communities.

He called on the National Assembly to facilitate the implementation of the HPADEC Amendment Bill, which has been passed into law by both chambers, as it would help address the problem of flooding, poverty and other problems being experienced by the citizens.

He also noted that agriculture holds the key to future development of Nigeria and called on governments at all levels to come out with concrete policies and programmes that would make agriculture attractive to Nigerians.

The lawmaker, who observed that for a nation to attain sustainable development in an atmosphere of rancor, called on Nigerians to embrace peace.

Also speaking, Minister of Information, Mr. Labaran Maku said that the Federal Government as part of its transformation programme is building ten new gas power plants adding that by 2013, there would be stability in power supply in all the states of the federation.

He noted that in order to address the decay on the Nigerian roads, President Jonathan has directed the Federal Ministry of Works to commence the rehabilitation of the major roads across the country as soon as the dry season sets in.

He stated that the present administration is committed to the sustenance of democracy and promotion of good governance adding that the tour would help to ascertain what the states, local and Federal Government is doing to promote the welfare of the people.

The mister urged traditional rulers not to take peace for granted in their various communities.
