DPR to Deal with Erring Petrol Stations
The Ilorin office of the Department of Petroleum Resources, on Tuesday, said it had changed strategy to clamping on filling stations selling fuel above the regulated price of N97 per litre in Kwara State.
City Rove recalls that the department last Thursday, sealed up three petrol stations in Ilorin, including Mudran, Super Oil and Unilorin station, for selling the commodity between N115 and N120 to the public.
The Comptroller of the agency, Engr Amos Jokotola, who confirmed this on telephone yesterday, said some petrol stations were dispensing the product at exorbitant price in the early hours of the day and late in the night to avoid being shut down by the agency.
He said the department has dispatched some officials to major towns in Kwara South in a bid to ensuring that petrol stations sell at official price.
"We have changed our strategy in clamping down on erring filling stations. We are enforcing the official price of N97 per litre, because anything against this is contrary to the government pronounced price.
"We have moved out of Ilorin. As I speak to you, our officials are in Offa to make sure that members of the public are not cheated".
