Kwara's Life Line for LG Workers - Banu
The kwara State Government may have concluded arrangement to assist local government councils in the state to pay backlog of salaries being owed their workers before the Ileya festival.
The state Commissioner for Finance, Mr. Demola Banu, made this known in Ilorin, Kwara state capital.
He explained that the state government was moved to take the action because what affect local governments also affect the state government, adding, "local government workers are also Kwarans."
He commended the state Governor, Alhaji Abdulfatah Ahmed, for taking the step to assist the local governments to pay the backlog of salaries.
"The state government does not want any of its staff to have any problem, be it at the state or local government level", he stated.
Banu reiterated that the state government has never tampered with the account of local councils, saying that, the local governments were operating separate accounts.
"It has also been established that the state government is not taking anything from local government accounts being that state government has its own account, separate from the local governments'," he explained.
He attributed the inability of the councils to pay salaries to shortfall in allocations from the Federation Account, verification and bio-metric audit of the staff to detect ghost workers among others.
Banu explained that government has set up a committee over the persistent inability to pay local government workers, adding that the committee has looked at local government records to review their revenue and expenditure.
He said that the state government would continue to create conducive environment for its citizen, imploring workers to be law-abiding.
According to him, the committee has submitted its report and the state government has swung into action by reviewing the report.
The commissioner remarked that the state government would provide succour for its staff both at state and local level.
