Mrs. Ahmed Doles Out Sallah Gifts in Offa

Date: 2012-10-28

Food and clothing worth several thousands of Naira were on Wednesday donated to various groups in Offa by the LEAH Charity Foundation, a pet project of Her Excellency, Mrs. Omolewa Ahmed.

The event was held at the new secretariat of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), in Offa, where the Chairman of the PDP in Offa, Alh. (Engr) Goke Rabiu commended Her Excellency for the gesture, adding that the beneficiaries would appreciate the gesture, as it is coming at the appropriate time when the people need food and clothing for the Sallah festival.

Goke further reiterated the position of the executives of the party that all functions by any group should hold at the party secretariat, urging the foundation to be fair in all its activities, stressing that all women leaders, whether serving or past should be recognized and expressed his happiness at the presence of the past women leaders at the occasion.

The Ambassador of LEAH Foundation, Alh. Abdulquadir Kazeem, expressed dissatisfaction at the level of apathy by Offa women to political mobilization in terms of the organization of many fora, stating that the registration of three groups from Offa by the Foundation is small for a place like Offa which ought to be represented by many groups considering the level of enlightenment and political consciousness of the society.

Abdulquadir, popularly known as Alhaji Alhaji, stated that the presentation of gifts by the foundation is a continuous process, urging those who do not benefit from clothing to be patient till next month, but challenged the groups to woo more members into its fold by enlisting the names of indigent students and pupils irrespective of political affiliation for sponsorship by the foundation.

Mrs. Tiltilayo Yusuf, the deputy Coordinator of Megida solidarity forum in Offa, who was also a beneficiary, thanked the foundation for the gifts but also appealed to the LEAH Foundation to make the presentation a continuous process which would not only enhance the living standard of the people but also encourage more people to have interest in the PDP.

However, rice was distributed to all those present at the occasion as a means to alleviate poverty, irrespective of political party and age, as everyone had a nylon bag of rice for the Sallah as a take-home gift.
