MEDIA WATCH GROUP CALLS ON SECURITY AGENCIES TO BE PROACTIVE

Date: 2021-03-18

A call has gone to Security Agencies in Kwara State to save Kwara State citizens from trouble makers using Christian faith to forment trouble.

This call was made today by the Muslim Media Watch Group of Nigeria following the report of skirmishes in some Secondary Schools in Ilorin yesterday as some unknown faces to the School Teachers and Students emerged turning back muslim students over wearing of hijab. These was reported in few schools such as Bishop Smith Memorial College Ilorin, Baptist Secondary School Ilorin and Cherubim & Seraphim College Sabo-Oke Ilorin.

In a News Release made available to the Press today and signed by its National Coordinator of the Group Alh. Ibrahim Abdullahi, the Group stated that whether the issue of hijab or ownership of the former christian mission schools, the matter had been determined by the Courts of Law.

According to the Group, hijab was not an issue in Kwara State until September 19th, 2019 when the Court of Appeal Ilorin upheld the judgement of the Lower Court (i. e. Ilorin High Court) that all mission schools in the State whether owned by Muslims or Christians belonged to Kwara State Government. It was the frustration of the Plaintiff (i.e. Kwara CAN) that made it to instruct Principals of the formerly owned christian schools to disallow the use of hijab to show that muslim female students are unwanted in the Schools.qq

This act of provocation and intimidation of innocent students, made the State Govrrnment - the bonafide owners of the Schools to call meetings of both Muslim and Christian Leaders severally to iron out issues; the outcome of which made the State Government to approve hijab as a fundamental human right of in any student in all public schools of which former Muslim and Christian School integral part. This Group said thus is in line with Section 38 of the Nigerian Constitution and in tune with Courts judgement.

MMWG stated that by disrupting some school activities in Ilorin yesterday, those people who were preventing entry of some muslim students into schools were violating court orders and breaching the peace which all law-abiding citizens deserve.

While commending Governor Abdul- Rahman Abdul- Razaq for his humane, gentle and peaceful approach to the issue, the Group called on the Commissioner Police, State Commandant of NSCDC and Director DSS to prevent trouble-makers that disrupted academic activities yesterday and cohorts to stay away from vicinity of the Public Schools affected or get arrested and prosecuted according to the law of our land.

MMWG stated that true Christians are law-abiding like their Muslim counterparts, any further disruptions in School activities by miscreants parading themselves as Church Leaders or Members should be viewed seriously as provided in our laws; adding that true and law-abiding christians in the State would not be part of nonsense happening now in the State.

The Group stated that there was an illegal 'stay of execution notice' purportedly filed by Kwara CAN a week ago; this Group said that such notice is inconsequential on judgements under reference as Supreme Court might not even attend to it in 10 years to come, as the earlier judgements were qqqqqqdeclaratory.

It concluded that CAN Kwara that procured the 'stay of execution notice' had earlier been described by the Court of Appeal as 'medulous interlopers' who according to the law has no business in the matter under consideration.

It finally appeal to the Security Forces in the State to urgently perform their function efficiently to prevent breakdown of law and order in the State, adding that in a credible Society, miscreants must not have their way otherwise there would chaos.
