The death of the Queen Mother of Kano and Bichi Emirates in Kano State,Hajiya Maryam Ado Bayero, has been described as a monumental loss not only to the people of the two Emirates but also to those of Ilorin Emirate and the Nigerian nation at large. The late Queen mother, who was also a widow of the penultimate Emir of Kano,Alhaji Ado Bayero, reportedly died at an Hospital in Cairo,Egypt.

The statement said that the Union received the news of the demise of Hajiya Ado Bayero with shock, saying that her death represents the end of a significant era in the annals of the nation's traditional leadership institution.

Alhaji Uthman described the late Hajiya Ado Bayero as a great unifier and an illustrious daughter of Ilorin Emirate who lived a very glorious life throughout and was indeed a pride to all, adding that Her Royal Highness died when her services, counsel, affection and experience were more needed.

He added that the late matriarch remained extremely humble and approachable throughout her life despite been an epitome of first class royalty as a daughter, wife, mother and mother in-law to first class monarchs.

Alhaji Uthman recalled several colourful and meaningful motherly support and interventions the late Queen Mother offered the people of Ilorin Emirate who sojourned in Kano and most especially the Kano Branch of the IEDPU,which she served as a dependable rallying figure, throughout her life.

The Union condoled the government and people of Kano and Kwara States on the passage of a great citizen. It also sympathised with their Royal Highnesses, the Emir of Kano,Alhaji Aminu Ado Bayero; and the Emir of Bichi,Alhaji Nasiru Ado Bayero; on the death of their mother as well as His Eminence, the Emir of Ilorin and Chairman, Kwara State Council of Emirs and Obas, Alhaji(Dr) Ibrahim Sulu-Gambari, CFR, on the passage of his aunt.
