Committees submit reports on Unilorin Alumni crisis

Date: 2021-10-06

Two committees set up to resolve the crisis rocking the University of Ilorin Alumni Association have submitted their reports for consideration and ratification of the congress of the association.

The two committees; Constitution Review and Fact Finding, were raised following the dispute in the association which later led to two factions laying claim to the association's leadership.

Speaking with journalists after public presentation of the reports at the boardroom of the Faculty of Law of the institution, Chairman, Body of Past Presidents of the University of Ilorin Alumni Association, Professor Olufemi Durosaro, who received the two reports at the, said that justice would be done on the reports for the alumni to be better.

He disclosed that the body would painstakingly read through the details of the reports, especially recommendations while the congress was expected to take what he referred to as 'supreme decision' on the matter.

Durosaro expressed optimism that Unilorin Almuni was on the path to progress, peaceful cooperation and co-existence with the quality of eggheads and personalities put together in the committees and quality of the reports presented.

He informed that it was discovered that the existing constitution of the association was deficient in some aspects, saying that had been the basis of the crisis.

"Our gathering is to find a lasting solution to a minor problem rocking our Alumni Association. We have set up two committees to look into where the conflict has come from. They have worked on the issues involved and came with the reports, which were submitted through the Body of Past Presidents that I'm heading and for onward transmission to the congress.

"This is because we would study it and give our own recommendation that would go to the congress. The congress of our association is the supreme body on decision making.

"After the last election for a new executive to run the association, there were some infighting within the executive as a carryover of electioneering wrangling. People found it difficult to work together amicably, and this was degenerating into something that will smear our association and even the university and lead to litigations.

"We felt as a Body of Past Presidents, we should not allow things to degenerate so badly. We waded into it on the invitation of the Vice-Chancellor, who was interested in having peace".

While Professor Wahab Egbewole (SAN), led the Constitution Review Committee, Professor Gboyega Fawole, chaired the Committee on Fact Findings that were Instituted for amicable resolution of the conflict arising from the two factions.
