Gov. Ahmed Wants Kwara People to Sustain Saraki's Legacy
Gov. Abdulfatah Ahmed of Kwara has urged indigenes of the state to join hands with his administration to sustain the legacy of late Dr Olusola Saraki.
He made the call when he received Prince Samuel Adedoyin, the Chairman, Doyin Group of Companies, who paid him a condolence visit in Ilorin on Thursday.
Ahmed urged indigenes of Kwara, irrespective of their religious or political differences, to ensure that Saraki’s legacy of caring for the poor was sustained.
He said that though it might be difficult for any individual to emulate the generosity of Saraki in helping the poor, a milestone would be achieved through collective effort.
"The late Saraki left a big vacuum that may be difficult to fill without unity. Collectively we might be able to develop a platform to achieve some of the things Saraki stood for.
"He stood for growth and development of the people because he believed that the strength required to move on resided in the people," he said.
The governor promised that his administration would sustain the late politician’s dream of a better Kwara and a virile Nigeria.
In his remark, Adedoyin, who extolled the virtues of Saraki, described him as a detribalised Nigerian.
He recalled that in his over 40 years of friendship with the Second Republic senate leader, Saraki’s love for the poor was exemplary.
In a related development, Gov. Ahmed has appealed to the leadership of the north to close ranks to find solutions to the social and security challenges facing the zone.
He said this when the leadership of the Northern Consultative Forum (NCF), led by its chairman, Alhaji Aluko Mohammed, paid him a condolence visit.
Mohammed described Saraki as 'a man with huge generosity and compassion for the poor and strong believer in the Nigerian nation.'
