No More Rift Between Bukola, Gbemi, Says Uncle

Date: 2012-12-05

Contrary to the view in some quarters that former Governor of Kwara State, Senator Bukola Saraki, and his sister, Senator Gbemisola Saraki do not see eye to eye, the immediate younger brother of their father, Alhaji Abdullahi Ayinla Olatunji Saraki, yesterday said that there was no longer rift between the siblings.

He said though there was once an internal strife, the family, according to him, has resolved it amicably.

Alhaji Saraki, who spoke in an exclusive interview with The Herald in Ilorin, faulted the rumours that there was still a misunderstanding between the two off-springs of the late Waziri of Ilorin.

He said the tongue and the teeth may sometime clash but with time, they learn to understand and tolerate each other.

Saraki, who is based in Lagos, also clarified issues surrounding the mother of Senator Bukola Saraki, attesting that Madam Florence Morenike Saraki is the biological mother of the former Governor.

“I wonder what people want to gain from this rumour; they said Florence was not Bukola's mother; so who was his real mother?

“We have clarified this issue severally but some mischief makers would not let the sleeping dog lie; they want to draw issue where there is none.

“For the avoidance of doubt, when Bukola was three months old, I was the first person in our family, apart from his father and mother, to cuddle him when they arrived the Sea Port in Lagos, because he was born in London.

“I want to use this medium to call on rumour peddlers to stop playing politics with our family matters. They should desist from dragging our family name into the mud.

“Bukola is a responsible person whom I believe would be more generous than his father. He has started demonstrating it even before my brother's death”, Olatunji Saraki maintained.

Commenting on the dust generated over Olusola Saraki's burial arrangement, Alhaji Olatunji Saraki said the elder statesman was interred in line with Islamic rites, calling on those he described as 'busybody' to back up any contrary claim on the issue.

He said the family would remain committed to the ideal and true principles of the late political heavyweight so as to sustain a better political atmosphere.

He expressed optimism that Bukola Saraki would sustain and build on the legacy of his father.

He told our correspondents that the ex-governor has carved a niche for himself both in Nigeria and in the diaspora, particularly in the area of good governance and economic development.

The late Olusola Saraki's younger brother commended the Emir of Ilorin, Dr Ibrahim Sulu-Gambari for his support to the family all the time.
