Date: 2023-09-10

The President of the foundation, Alhaji Saheed Alakoso, said this during a medical outreach, organised in conjunction with Kwara Health Insurance Scheme, Rotamedics Pharmacy and Ilorin Emirate Local Health Clinic.

The exercise took place in three locations, namely Pakata (Ubandawaki Quarters), Okelele (Bale Dada household) and Emirs Palace in Ilorin.

Alakoso said the 100 beneficiaries were the first set, adding that more would be enrolled in the scheme in future.

“We registered as non-political organisation, consisting of indigenes of the state that have intention to offer selfless service to humanity.

“We organise ICT training, annual distribution of food items to indigent persons at Ramadan, health insurance registration and medical outreach,” he said.

In a speech, Gov. AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq of Kwara, assured the people of government's determination to provide good medical facilities all over the state.

AbdulRazaq, represented by the Commissioner for Health, Dr Aminat El-Imam, said that the outreach was designed to encourage people of Ilorin and environs to go for regular checkup.

“This administration has started renovating all the hospitals in the state and providing necessary equipment for the benefit of the people.

“We have deployed competent medical personnel in all the hospitals and intend to employ more in order to make healthcare service easily accessible to the people,” he said.

The governor urged the beneficiaries to maximise the opportunity given to them to conduct regular check-up.

He also urged other non-governmental organisations as well as wealthy individuals to take a cue from Likeminds Foundation and assist the community in health and other sectors.

The Chairman, Nigeria Medical Association, Kwara branch, Prof, Katibi Ibrahim, said the major aim of the outreach was to sensitise the people on the need for regular health checks.

Ibrahim, who is also a member of the foundation, said that good health was paramount and should not be taken with levity, adding that “health is wealth.”

He further said that the foundation selected beneficiaries that were mostly in need of health assistance, adding that more would be added later.

He also said that the idea was to assist people, especially the less-privileged in the community, to have access to health care.

According to him, the gesture will encourage more people to assist the underprivileged in the community.

The beneficiaries comprised the young and old as well as children in need of medical attention. They were also given medication, while eye glasses were issued to those diagnosed with eye issues.
