Kwara Governor Applauds BudgIT For Transparency, Accountability

Date: 2023-10-18

The Kwara state governor in Northcentral Nigeria, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq has commended BudgIT, a Nigerian nonprofit group for it's efforts in promoting transparency and accountability in budget.

AbdulRazaq who is also the Chairman of Nigeria Governors' Forum gave the commendation during a public presentation of BudgIT's State of States 2023 Report, themed 'Subnational Health Delivery for Improved Economic Development,' in Abuja.

The Governor while congratulating the Nonprofit organization for its impact in bringing attention to transparency and accountability in Government noted that their efforts, “have helped to guide government officers and institutions to see things differently.”

Speaking on the report, AbdulRazaq said: “I believe the report will contain specific recommendations and point up different issues that sub-nationals must pay better attention to for better service delivery in the health sector.

“But beyond funding gaps, sometimes foggy policy outlooks, and the question of accountability on the part of government institutions, I believe that another issue that should engage our attention is how the attitude of different stakeholders, especially at the individual level, can make a huge difference in our journey to greatness. ”

He, however, assured that the report will be studied by NGF promising that it would have a positive impact on service delivery in the future, saying “ I assured BudgIT that the NGF will thoroughly study the report, which would then be cascaded to different layers of government for better outcomes in the future.”

BudgIT is a Nigerian nonprofit promoting transparency and accountability in budget and public resources through infographics and data analysis, founded in Lagos by Oluseun Onigbinde and Joseph Agunbiade in 2011.

According to the group, they are focused on facilitating civic engagement, budget reforms and effective service delivery using key programs at the national and sub-national levels of government.
