Governor Ahmed Seeks Support for Nigerian Legion
Kwara State Governor Abdulfatahi Ahmed has called on council chairmen to support the Nigerian Legion in order to improve the living conditions of ex-service men. He said this in Ilorin on Thursday during the launching of the Armed Forces Remembrance Emblem Appeal Fund.
The governor, who was represented by Samuel Bamisaye, the Commissioner for Social Development, Culture and Tourism, said the fund was designed to raise money for the welfare of families and dependants of ex-service men.
He expressed the hope that the fund would garner adequate money to cater for the families of soldiers who lost their lives during the two world wars and the Nigerian civil war.
"The appeal fund that we are about to launch is essentially to raise funds for the families of soldiers who fought gallantly during wars for our society to live in peace.
"We must always remember that the gallant heroes we are honouring today made the supreme sacrifices so that we may live in peace and harmony. We therefore have the duty to show our appreciation by contributing generously toward the up keep of their families," he said.
