Kogi Speaker's Crash: Widowhood Too Early For Me – Escort's Wife

Date: 2013-01-05

Mrs Raliat Bola Lamidi, widow of Constable Hameed Lamidi, the police escort who died on Thursday when a vehicle in the convoy of the speaker, Kogi State House of Assembly, Hon. Momoh Jimoh Lawal, crashed, said the death of her husband had created a painful hole in her heart and the entire family, adding that it was too early for her to manage widowhood.

In a telephone interview with LEADERSHIP WEEKEND from her Eri Ile country home in Kwara State yesterday, Mrs. Lamidi appealed to the police authorities to honour her late husband and pay his entitlements on time.

Meanwhile, chief press secretary to the speaker, Mr. Austine Akubo, has said the lawmaker’s vehicle was not part of the accident that claimed the life of his police escort, explaining that the accident, which occurred on December 31, 2012, at Osara in Adavi LGA of the state, only involved the escort Hilux van that hit a heavy-duty truck.

“The speaker’s vehicle was not involved, and he did not sustain any injury from the accident,’’ Akubo said, adding that the police escort was on a special duty when the accident occurred. He said two of his colleagues sustained minor injuries.

The late Lamidi was rushed to the Federal Medical Centre, Lokoja, where he died on Thursday. He has been buried in his home town Eri Ile, Kwara State.

Last week Friday, Governor Idris Wada was involved in a ghastly motor accident. His aide de camp, ASP Idris Muhammed, died on the spot.
