Kwara SUBEB Spends N872M on Projects - Daibu
The Kwara State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB) said it had spent N872 million on the construction and renovation of schools so far.
The Chairman of the board, Alhaji Lanre Daibu, who disclosed this on Monday in Ilorin while speaking with journalists, also said N972 million had been earmarked for projects in 2013.
"The funds are targeted to improve the standard of education in the state, especially at the basic level.
"SUBEB has embarked on massive renovation and construction of basic schools in the state to enable them compete favourably with privately-owned schools," he said. Daibu said that the state government would construct teachers' quarters in rural areas in order to reduce rural-urban drift.
He attributed the success recorded by the board to the support of the state Governor, Alhaji AbdulFatah Ahmed. He said that Ahmed had accorded priority attention to the provision of sound and qualitative education in the state. (NAN)
