NSCDC Reports No Security Breaches in Kwara State Amidst Nationwide Hunger Protest

Date: 2024-08-06

According to City & Crime, the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) in Kwara State has stated that it has not recorded any security breaches in connection with the ongoing nationwide hunger protest, which entered its fifth day on Monday.

The protest has led to several deaths and the destruction of property in other locations but has started to lose momentum in many states.

Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq has expressed gratitude to the people of the state for choosing not to participate in the demonstration.

However, a former state Chairman of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Comrade Emmanuel Ayeoribe, has criticized the government for securing a court injunction to limit the protest to the metropolitan square and for "not allowing it to proceed freely."

But speaking with our correspondent on Monday, the NSCDC spokesman, Ayoola Michael, said “We are yet to record a single incident of arrest, vandalism or chaos since Thursday when the protest started in many other states.

“Kwara has been peaceful but we are not letting down our guards,” Ayoola said.
