Fuel Scarcity Hits Kwara: Queues Resurface in Ilorin

Date: 2024-08-21

According to a concerning news report from Daily Post, fuel scarcity has spread to Kwara State, with queues resurfacing at fuel stations in the capital city of Ilorin.

The report reveals that a litre of petrol is now selling for prices ranging from N640 to N680 in major marketers' filling stations, while some independent fuel marketers are charging as much as N900 to N1,000 per litre.

The situation has led to most filling stations being shut and under lock and key, with claims that they are out of stock. This development is causing significant disruption to residents and businesses in the state.

A manager of one of the independent marketers, Tajudeen Balogun, who spoke to DAILY POST in Ilorin, lamented that “there is no importation or loading of petrol in Lagos again as the NNPC now remains the sole importer of the product.”

He said the situation will continue until the local four refineries are made to function to meet the dire needs of Nigerians.

A top official of TotalEnergies in one of the filling stations in Ilorin, who confided in this medium, also could not give concrete reasons.

“The only thing I know is that we are unable to load fuel in Lagos, because the product is not available presently,” he stated, adding that “only God can rescue the country from the present situation.”

DAILY POST reports that the fuel scarcity and the increased cost per litre, have led to a spike in transport fares in the state capital, as commercial cab operators, including Okada and tricycle riders complain bitterly about the situation.
