Kwara State Commissioner Lauds Ecological Projects in Patigi Local Government

Date: 2024-10-26

In the course of inspecting ongoing ecological projects across Kwara State's 16 Local Government Areas, Commissioner for Local Government, Chieftaincy Affairs, and Community Development, Hon. Abdullah Abubakar Bata, expressed delight with the progress of developments in Patigi Local Government Area.

Hon. Bata expressed particular satisfaction with the construction of dual box culverts in the Kparumagi area, praising the project's expected impact on local farmers, who rely on accessible roads to transport produce to market. He commended the patience and resilience of the Patigi community, acknowledging the logistical challenges farmers have faced due to limited infrastructure.

The commissioner remarked that the new culvert bridge would significantly ease movement for locals, especially farmers, by providing them with a much-needed connection to town markets. The construction, he noted, reflects the administration's commitment to projects that directly support local economic growth and the wellbeing of residents.

He, however, admonished other councils in the State to borrow a leaf from the Patigi Council, which has ensured that their projects have really redefined the essence of government intervention on ecological challenges and economic development of the community.

In her remarks the Development Officer of Patigi Local Government, Hon. Fatimah Asabe Jiya, thanked the Commissioner and disclosed that the synergy between her office and the Local Government Council to holistically identify the much needed intervention has paid off, expressing joy over the enthusiasm of the people of Patigi. She promised other communities in need of similar intervention that they would be attended to in earnest.

The Director of Personnel Management of Patigi Local Government, Mrs Fabiyi Tosin said the projects were done according to laid down specifications and emphasized that the benefiting communities had requested for the projects executed.

In his appreciation, the village head of Esungi, Mallam Mohammed Chechegi thanked the government for the life changing intervention.

Mallam Chechegi narrated that the community had been cut-off for decades, adding that since the previous bridge collapsed, it became almost impossible to move their farm produce out especially during the rainy season.

Other projects visited were the construction of a box culvert at Lade, and the construction of the drainage at the Kara market, all in Patigi LGA.
