Kwara Residents Urged to Adhere to Environmental Laws for Clean, Investor-Friendly State

Date: 2024-10-28

Voice of Nigeria reports that the Kwara State Government has issued another reminder for residents to strictly follow the state's environmental laws, emphasizing that a clean, healthy environment is essential for attracting investors and fostering overall development.

Speaking over the weekend during the state's monthly sanitation exercise in Ilorin, Commissioner for Environment Hajia Nafisat Musa Buge highlighted the benefits of adhering to these laws, which aim to make the environment safe, sustainable, and appealing to potential investors.

Represented by her Permanent Secretary, Dr. Abubakar Ayinla, the Commissioner was excited at the the level of compliance among the residents of the state, adding that; “with what we observed today in the metropolis and the reports received from Local Government Areas of the state, the level of compliance has drastically improved. More efforts therefore needs being put in place, to ensure sustainability, in order to promote hygienic environment with the aim of preventing epidemics in the society.”

Hajia Buge, however, expressed displeasure about some commercial motor parks violating the sanitation law, warning them to desist henceforth, from such actions, capable of sabotaging the environmental law, with an appeal that Kwarans should adhere strictly to sanitation laws of the state for benefit of all.

The Commissioner further warned that henceforth, the ministry will no longer tolerate anyone, especially commercial transporters, who often flout environmental laws, during the monthly sanitation exercise in the state.

Buge , however commended security agencies and various voluntary organisations, for their tireless supports at ensuring a smooth sanitation exercise.

She also charged members of the public, not to relent in their efforts to make Kwara a pace-setter, as a clean and an hygienic environment state.

*About 200 environmental offenders arrested*

Despite public awareness on the monthly Sanitation exercise, about 200 environmental offenders were apprehended and charged to various mobile courts, during the exercise held across the 16 Local Government Areas of the state.
