Date: 2024-11-07

Leadership highlights that the Kwara State Ministry of Works and Transport has achieved substantial progress in infrastructure development as of the third quarter of 2024.

This was disclosed by the Commissioner for Works and Transport, Engr. Abdulquwwiy Olododo, during a recent ministerial press briefing in Ilorin, the state capital.

Olododo emphasized the ministry's role as a crucial arm of the government responsible for advancing infrastructure and upgrading the state's transportation networks. He detailed the successful completion of 75 significant projects, including the rehabilitation of major roads such as the Secretariat–Lafiagi Township Road, Wahab Folawiyo (Unity Road), and Ahmadu Bello Way in Ilorin.

Additional works include the Omu-Aran–Oko Road, a 10-meter-span bridge at Omipa–Odo-Ashe Road, Asa-Dam Lower Road, and the Offa Eid Praying Ground to Olofa Palace Way leading to Federal Polytechnic Offa Gate, among others, aimed at improving traffic flow and enhancing connectivity across the state's three senatorial districts.

The commissioner explained that 52 projects were ongoing, including the construction of a flyover at Unity Roundabout, Post Office- Emir's road, and the rehabilitation of Ibrahim Taiwo road.

He described the initiatives as part of Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq's commitment to boosting infrastructural development, fostering economic growth and improving the quality of life for all residents of the state.

Olododo said the expansion of the operations of the Kwara State Road Traffic Management Authority (KWARTMA), an agency under the ministry to Offa, was aimed at ensuring that effective traffic control is brought to other locations outside the state capital.

He disclosed that the State government also purchased new patrol vehicles and motorcycles for both KWARTMA and the Vehicle Inspection Unit of the ministry to improve traffic control, ensure compliance with road safety rules and reduce delays in busy areas.

“The move is in alignment with the State government's goal of ensuring smoother traffic flow and better safety for road users in its urban renewal plans,” he said.

Olododo praised the Kwara State Fire Service for its improved emergency response efforts, having responded to 22 calls during the quarter and saved over ?17 bn property.

” The service also acquired new firefighting equipment, including a truck and a flying boat to further enhance its ability to manage emergencies and safeguard lives and properties,” he said.

Olododo added that,: “Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq's administration is steadfast in its commitment to transforming Kwara State through the provision of vital road infrastructure and balanced rural and urban development. These initiatives are designed not only to enhance connectivity and ease of movement, but also to serve as a foundation for accelerated industrial growth.

“By prioritising Infrastructural development, the Kwara State Government aims to create new economic opportunities, attract investments, and improve the quality of life of all residents, ensuring that the socio-economic wellbeing of every citizen in Kwara State continues to thrive.”
