KWASU Clarifies Alleged Police Victim No Longer a Student at Time of Death
In an official release on KWASU's Facebook page, the management of Kwara State University (KWASU) has clarified that Ayeyemi Sulaiman, who was reportedly killed by police officers in Tanke, Ilorin, last Tuesday, was not a student of the institution at the time of the incident.
In an official statement released on Tuesday, Dr. Saeedat Aliyu, Acting Director of University Relations, stated that Sulaiman was no longer enrolled at KWASU as of the time of the unfortunate event.
Saedat said, “The management of Kwara State University is compelled to address statements in the media that claim that the victim of a killing in the Tanke area, Ilorin, was a student of the institution.
“Records in the university show that Aiyeyemi Sulaimon Olayinka had voluntarily withdrawn from the Department of Statistics of the institution since the 2018/2019 session when he was in the 200 level.
“The management of Kwara State University strongly sympathises with the family of the deceased and prays that God gives the family the fortitude to bear the loss.
The Kwara State Police Command had confirmed the alleged killing of the 27-year-old student identified as Suleiman Olayinka in the Tanke area Ilorin saying the police were already aware and had taken action on it.
The spokesperson for the command, Ejire-Adeyemi Toun, had confirmed the killing, saying, “The Kwara State Police Command is aware of this unfortunate incident which led to the sudden death of Suleiman Olayinka (M) 27 years.
“A complaint of cheating and criminal breach of trust was reported against the deceased. Police detectives were immediately detailed to investigate the case.”
Ejire-Adeyemi said some policemen had been arrested and detained on the alleged killing and had been put on orderly room trial at the police headquarters.
“Meanwhile, the officers involved in the incident have been identified, arrested and detained for further investigations as regards the death of the suspect”, Ejire-Adeyemi said.
